In late 2008 I was staying in Atlanta for a bit and the homie Malay introduced me to his artist Yelawolf at a Big Boi party. I had the opportunity to watch Yela perform later that year at Lenny’s and I absolutely loved him. Like I said in the video, I became an instant fan. He’s exceptional on stage.
Yelawolf debuted in the mainstream audience as a feature on Slim Thug’s single “I Run” off his “Boss of all Bosses” album that came out in March of last year. It build a good buzz for him and his track “Mixin Up The Medicine” with Juelz Santana that came out a few months ago, stirred up some heat. Yela’s latest mixtape “Trunk Muzik” features artists like Bun B, Raekwon, Juelz Santana and Diamond, with production handled by Will Power (for Supa Hot Beats), KP & Malay, and Kane Beatz. [Will Power makes a small cameo in the interview as I was thoroughly impressed with his variety of skills. He was responsible for the dope cover of the mixtape too]
During this interview, Yelawolf is on set of the video shoot for his song “Lick The Cat” which features Diamond, formerly of Crime Mob. Diamond also makes a small cameo at the beginning and talks about working with Yela and the concept of the video which is taking place at a tattoo shop in Atlanta. He also talks about how he got in the studio with Juelz, Bun and Raekwon.
